We have added a new script to our Free Scripts section, named BookReport. BookReport generates reports that identify the relationships among your FrameMaker documents, books, and insets. BookReport can also help you get organized by deleting .backup files and zipping unused documents.

BookReport

BookReport is a freely-available application that can help you get a handle on the interdependencies among your FrameMaker® books, documents, and insets.

BookReport can also clean up your project directories by deleting .backup files and zipping unused documents.

Choose a directory, select your options, and begin scanning. Book report generates the following reports in FrameMaker and tab-delimited formats:

  • FrameMaker Books: This report lists every FrameMaker book within the search directory, and the documents contained in each book. The report also identifies missing documents, and documents with directory paths outside the search directory.
  • FrameMaker Documents: This report lists every FrameMaker document within the search directory, and the books that contain each document.
  • FrameMaker Documents Containing One or More Insets: This report lists every FrameMaker document within the search directory that contains one or more insets. The report also identifies the insets contained in each document. The report identifies missing insets, and insets with directory paths outside the search directory.
  • FrameMaker Insets: This report lists every FrameMaker document that is imported as an inset by one or more FrameMaker documents.
  • Unused Documents: This report lists every FrameMaker document within the search directory that is not imported in book or used as an inset. BookReport provides an option to zip the unused documents in each directory.
  • Potential Duplicate Documents: This report lists every FrameMaker document within the search directory that has the same name. The report also lists the books that contain each document.

Book report is compatible with FrameMaker versions 7.x and above, running in unstructured or structured mode. BookReport also requires FrameScript® version 4.1 or later.
